A long-standing tradition

For well over a decade, NYU Cinema Studies students have had the opportunity to present their research to their peers at the annual Student Conference. The conference is now, and has been for quite some time, completely student-run.

The main goal of the conference is to provide students, regardless of school, department or academic level, a chance to present and defend their own original research projects. This experience is invaluable for future pursuits in academic or industry careers, both as public speaking experience and as opportunities to receive and respond to constructive criticism.

Another historical goal is to display the quality of work present in the NYU Cinema Studies Department to the community at large. This year, we have expanded this goal to include other departments. Most significantly, this year's conference will reflect a partnership between the Cinema Studies and French Departments here at New York University, with shared panel topics, keynotes, and reception. A number of students from other departments, and even other institutions, will also be showcasing their work at this year's conference. We hope this positive growth and branching out into other departments and institutions will continue over the years, allowing for even more collaboration and exchange of ideas.
